Back on April 3rd, 2023, of this year Nintendo filed a patent. On August 3rd, 2023, it was published revealing what looks like some new button and potentially new way to input data to some future hardware.

The patent looks to have a new joystick type button that functions in the ways most joysticks would move and function, however it seems a bit strange in design. It seems to have a push button on the top making look a bit odd, but what really what is interesting is that in the patent, specifically figure 7 and 8, we see the top tab portion seem to separate partially from the stem and looks to have a tilt function. What this is meant to show and do is not fully realized but it could result in some new unique gameplay or functionality in future technology.

As usual when reporting on these patents, companies such as Nintendo, are always submitting them, but only a percentage of these patents are used in future products. Seeing that it has been published it has a better chance to be implemented. We shall see how this could be incorporated into a controller or other apparatus.

With rumors of the new Nintendo console coming soon, I can imagine we have many surprises ahead. What do you think this could be used for?
