Sailing the seven seas with your crew, looting forts and other pirates is all fun and games until you stick your drunken crewmate in the brig, and they blow up your entire ship.
Sea of Thieves allows for players to vote their crewmates into the brig, yet it leaves those imprisoned players with access to their weapons and any throwable items on hand. While the brig might be one of the most underutilized features in Sea of Thieves, locking weapons and throwable items would make it far more successful.
When you send someone to the brig, the worst case scenario is they have five firebombs and 10 shots if they’ve equipped two firearms. In close quarters, a blunderbuss and flintlock are plenty. With the firebombs alone, they’ve set your entire lower deck on fire, and if you aren’t down there watching them, you might not even realize until the fire spreads.

Worse case, you made the horrible mistake of putting a powder keg down there, and whether you forgot about it or simply think your imprisoned player can’t reach it, you’d be wrong. Flintlock or Eye of Reach would easily make that sucker blow, and there would be no survivors.

This isn’t even a new problem. Fans vocalized the issue years ago in the forums; however, nothing has changed. If Rare wants the brig to actually be useful to discourage problem players, locking weapons and throwable items is absolutely necessary.
Do you agree? Do you think there’s a bigger issue with Sea of Thieves mechanics that needs to be solved first? Let us know what you think in the comments below or join the conversation on Boss Rush Network’s Discord and Facebook.
