As part of its ongoing initiative to support accessibility and inclusive gaming, Microsoft has announced that all games within the Xbox ecosystem will now feature standardized accessibility tags, prominently displayed at the top of every digital game listing.

Every game’s store page now displays these tags, making it easy for players to see available features at a glance. Clicking “More” expands each tag into a detailed description, allowing users to understand how a game supports different needs. For example, Sea of Thieves by Rare includes seven accessibility features, while South of Midnight from Compulsion Games offers thirteen—such as adjustable input sensitivity, large subtitles, multiple volume settings, and options that remove the need for button holds. Altogether, the system includes 24 standardized tags that cover a wide range of features, including menu narration, text-to-speech, and more.

This new tagging system builds on Microsoft’s ongoing accessibility efforts, which began with the 2018 release of the Xbox Adaptive Controller—designed to support custom input devices for players with limited mobility. In 2021, Microsoft introduced the Accessible Games Initiative, which has now evolved into an industry-wide standard led by the Entertainment Software Association. Other publishers and developers like Nintendo, Sony, EA, Ubisoft, Riot Games, Square Enix, and Warner Bros. are all contributing to the initiative.

Microsoft continues to be a leader in accessibility, becoming the first of the three major platform holders to implement the tags. While Sony and Nintendo helped create the system, they haven’t added the tags to their stores just yet.
