Steammas is upon us!
The Steam Winter Sale is one of Steam’s biggest events and I am one of those who counts down until the days. As we are within 24 hours of the event starting, it’s time to go through your last minute checks to make sure you’re ready for the sale.
Whether you’re buying for yourself or using this as a chance to finish your Christmas shopping, here are some tips to prepare.
- Look through your Discovery Queue for inspiration

You can refresh this during the day but it automatically updates every day. I wish I could say that I remember to check this every day but I don’t. I do try and do it at least a couple times a month to see if anything speaks to me.
The Discovery Queue is fully customizable and becomes more and more intuitive as you spend time on it. It’s rare these days for me to not add at least a couple of its suggestions to my Wishlist – if for no other reason to keep an eye out for a good sale.
This is a great way to build up your Wishlist which is a tool I use to get the most of the Winter Sale.
2. List your Wishlist in order of priority.

It helps you with prioritizing which games you want to focus on for the sale. It also helps any elves that may wander to your list know what you want to know.
I also stash all the DLCs I don’t have for Planet Zoo in my Wishlist. Most (if not all) will go on sale for around half off during the Winter Sale. And then other sales pop up off and on all year.
3. Make sure you’re friends on Steam with people you may want to give gifts to.

You can do this during the event but it’s something I like to double check before we go into the event. I budget out a certain amount of my Christmas shopping for the Steam Winter Sale.
Having them there also helps when you’re shopping for yourself. On the store’s page for any game you can see if a friend has it on their list too. For example, both my little brother and myself have Baulder’s Gate on our Wishlists. I may pick up a copy for both of us during the sale.
4. Set a budget
This is very important. Usually this sale runs long enough that I can put a line in two paychecks, but make sure you know what your limit is.
5. Join the discussion
For example, you could join in on the Boss Rush Facebook Group or our Boss Rush Discord, or even in a private server with friends.
Some of my top played games this year were recommendations from friends. Do not discount how valuable that is. Plus, half of the fun of an event like this is talking about it with others.
Whether you are shopping for yourself or others, the Steam Winter Sale is one of my favorite gaming events of the year.
From all of us here at Boss Rush Network, we wish you a very merry Steammas.
