It’s easy for smaller indie titles to slip through the cracks amidst larger announcements; however, don’t let Until Then fall off that radar!
An announcement trailer launched for Polychroma Games’ Until Then, a side-scrolling slice-of-life story that unravels themes of tragedy, trauma, and loss. The setting pays homage to life in the Philippines as you navigate a protagonist named Mark Borja, a high school student, who is struggling to move on from his past.
Until Then blends the daily struggles of teen life with deeper, more painful elements that we as humans all experience in one way, shape, or form. The simple gameplay mechanics allow the devs to focus on storytelling and mini-games that flesh out Mark’s life.
The PlayStation Blog shares the developer’s intent with Until Then with regards to their tribute to the Philippines:
The game itself is a love letter to youth in the Philippines. From small details in the background to major motifs in the setting of the fictional cities of Liamson and Bonifacio, we wanted to show a world that would celebrate the rich and diverse culture that shaped our own lives.

This trailer and the comments from Polychroma Games reminds me a lot of last year’s indie hit, A Space for the Unbound, by Mojiken which focuses on mental illness and takes place in a fictional town in 90’s Indonesia. Games crafted with such passion for story and cultural richness are destined to be excellent experiences.
Check out the announcement trailer below and stay tuned for a release date!
