The Johto Region is a great place to go on a vacation getaway because of its gorgeous landscapes perfect for any visitor’s tastes. This area has a rich history and no shortage of places to visit.

Planning a trip to Johto may seem daunting, but that is why we are here. Similar to our friends at the Hello Hyrule travel agency, we want to provide you with a travelogue to this idyllic region.

Come see all Johto has to offer with our top five towns perfect for your next getaway.

Violet City

Violet City is the first major town you visit in your Johto journey. It seems quiet enough, but it is a great place to visit if you want to explore the history of Johto.

Just north of town sits the famed Sprout Tower, which is full of Sages who have one thing in common: Bellsprout. If the sages aren’t enough, there are numerous Bellsprout statues and a swaying pillar said to be made from a 100-foot Bellsprout.

After stopping off at Earl’s Pokémon Academy, venture out of town to the Ruins of Alph for some sliding puzzles and Unown hauntings. You’ll also want to stop by the funky tree that’s not actually a tree at all, but really a Sudowoodo. End your visit with a not-so-relaxing trip to the Violet City Gym. Falkner awaits with his army of birds.

Violet City is close enough to Goldenrod City that it can be small while still offering all you need for a relaxing getaway. Violet City is a cure for the common blues!

Mahogany Town

Looking for a mountain retreat? Mahogany Town is just the place!

This quaint village sits amid the western edge of Johto’s mountains, making it a great place for winter enthusiasts. When not battling at the Mahogany Town Gym, many residents are out on the slopes and enjoying the powder.

Not a fan of skiing? Hike into the Lake of Rage, which doesn’t really live up to its name because its full of Magikarp though Gyarados have been known to make an appearance. There are even rumors of a shiny Red Gyarados that inhabits the lake. This is a great place to unwind with a fishing pole and a lawn chair.

Those seeking a challenge will want to visit the Mahogany Town Gym, home to the baddest man in Johto: Pryce. Not only does this man boast 50 years of experience with ice Pokémon, but he hikes to an ice-cold waterfall every morning to meditate prior to fulfilling his gym leader duties.

Come visit the ski town of Mahogany where you can enjoy gorgeous mountain vistas and relax by a serene lake. Wouldn’t it be nice to spend your days in Mahogany?

Olivine City

Embrace your inner beach bum by taking a trip to Olivine City! This idyllic town sits right on the beach, offering breathtaking views of the ocean. On a clear day, you can see as far as the Whirl Islands and maybe even Cianwood City.

A must-see destination is the iconic Lighthouse. This landmark is filled to the brim with antsy sailors looking for a fight. If you can make the climb to the top, you can see the Amphy the Ampharos, the electric Pokémon that provides the necessary direction to wayward ships. Olivine is also the dock for the fast ship S.S. Aqua.

After a day of relaxation, you may be in the mood for a battle. Test your skills at the Battle Tower, Johto’s premier training facility. If that’s not enough, head over to the Olivine City Gym where the leader Jasmine may seem shy, but her skills with steel Pokémon can overwhelm even the very best.

End your day with a short trip north to Moomoo Farm, where you can taste some delicious milk straight from the Miltank, just as long as its healthy. Shine a light on your next dream vacation by making plans to visit Olivine City.

Ecruteak City

History and legend come alive in Ecruteak City: home of the Bell Tower.

The Bell Tower, or Tin Tower depending on who you ask, is said to be the destination of the legendary Pokémon Ho-oh. Those brave enough to climb this building may catch a glimpse of this mythical bird.

While the Bell Tower stands tall, just down the road sits the Burned Tower. This tower is said to be the former home Lugia before lightning struck and burned the tower down, killing Raikou, Entei, and Suicune. Legend has it Ho-oh revived these Pokemon and they still inhabit the tower to this day.

Take in the arts with a trip to the Kimono Dance Theater. Here, the five Kimono Girls and their Eevee evolutions dance to local music. A trip to Ecruteak wouldn’t be complete without challenging Morty and his ghost brigade at the Ecruteak City Gym.

Ecruteak City is the essence of Johto and you can find all about its history by spending time here. Escape the hustle of Goldenrod City and spend a night or two in the legendary Ecruteak City.

Blackthorn City

Johto is home to a bevy of mountain landscapes and no where embodies that more than Blackthorn City. This city is often the final stop for trainers collecting Johto gym badges, but it also makes for a peaceful getaway.

Mountains surround Blackthorn City, providing a blast of fresh air not found anywhere else in Johto. Hikers will feel right at home in Blackthorn thanks to the numerous trails. The most popular are the Ice Path, a slippery slope to Mahogany, and Route 45, which features connections to the Dark Cave.

The biggest attraction in town is Dragon’s Den, complete with an underground lake and shrine. A clan of dragon masters built this shrine to the mythical dragon Pokémon. Put your skills to the test against some tough trainers or visit the Dragon Master for a chance at winning a Dratini.

The final test of your Johto journey involves you visiting Clair at the Blackthorn City Gym. Success runs in her blood as she is the cousin of Pokémon League Champion Lance. Obtaining that coveted eighth badge will be no easy feat, even after beating her.
