Sega and Atlus showed up big during Nintendo’s Feb. 21 Partner Showcase.
The two companies had four different games to show off during the direct. Those games included Super Monkey Ball: Banana Rumble, Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance, Unicorn Overlord, and Demon Slayer – Kimetsu no Yaiba – Sweep the Board!.
Sega is the parent company of Atlus so the two often go hand in hand. That said, not all Sega games come from Atlus.
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Rumble Announced
Sega announced, during the showcase, that Super Monkey Ball was returning in the form of Super Monkey Ball: Banana Rumble. The game is slated to release on June 25 exclusively on the Nintendo Switch with preorders starting now.
The game will feature over 200 new levels and motion controls will be optional. The game will also feature four-player local co-op. There will also be an online option for up to 16 players to compete in a variety of different mini games.
Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance Offers New Storyline
Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance is a new version of the RPG, including a new storyline on top of other additional content. The game is slated to release on June 21 on the Nintendo Switch as well as PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, and PC.
Atlus seems to indicate this version of the game will include the previous storyline from the original 2021 release. The company also states there will be new demons, locations, and significant choices to make that will impact the story.
Unicorn Overlord Gets Demo Ahead of Release
Unicorn Overlord is a new tactical RPG with a demo releasing immediately, ahead of its March 8 release. The game will arrive on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox Series X and S though, at the time of publication, no demo is available on other consoles other than the Switch.
Players can carry over their save data to the game once it releases. The game will feature real-time combat and open exploration of its overworld. Atlus claims Unicorn Overlord will be the “rebirth of tactical fantasy RPGs.”
Demon Slayer Board Games Gets Trailer
Demon Slayer – Kimetsu no Yaiba – Sweep the Board! is an upcoming party board game releasing on the Nintendo Switch on April 26. The game will allow for up to four players to participate.
The game got an overview trailer previously so the showcase included a few shots of the game during a montage.
Reacting to the News
While the rest of the gaming world is taking a breather after the crazy year of 2023, Sega and Atlus are showing no signs of slowing down.
Three of these four games got extensive previews during the Partner Showcase, providing a lot of hype-worthy footage. I tend to lean toward the RPGs, but Super Monkey Ball also looks like a lot of fun.
What’s great is all four of the games are releasing this year, which already adds to a busy schedule for the company.
Persona 3 Reload and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth have already released, both to excellent reviews. On top of that, Metaphor: ReFantazio, a new RPG, is slated for later this year from Atlus.
The two that people will most likely talk about the most are Super Monkey Ball and Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance, but don’t sleep on Unicorn Overlord. I think that game will fly under the radar but it looks to have the makings of a solid game.
All in all, Sega and Atlus are gearing up for a solid year with what can only seem to be more surprises on the way. Buckle up.
