In 1997, Sony released the game MLB ’98 to baseball fans worldwide. Almost three decades later, the franchise is still going strong.
It’s been 27 years of home runs, strikeouts, and fun associated with PlayStation across its five consoles and it doesn’t seem like it’s going away anytime soon.
MLB The Show 24 has been out for a little over a month and the reviews have been positive. Players have been raving about the new features, including the ability to play as a girl for the first time in the game’s history, and are loving how challenging it is to get really good players in Diamond Dynasty.
So it got me thinking – with such optimistic feedback, do people believe MLB The Show 24 is the franchise’s best iteration?
I’ll start by saying this, my opinion might be biased on this one. I do have ’24 and I absolutely love it. For me, it’s the minuscule additions that make the game for me.
Things like: The pinpoint pitching pattern being flipped based on the pitcher’s handedness, getting to hear the authentic stadium sound effects if your team does something positive (i.e. the W.B. Mason whistle at Yankee Stadium), or just new life-like animations all keep me invested in the game.
But I’d be remiss to not add the improved Storylines mode, including Derek Jeter’s early dynasty years in New York, that helps users better understand the sport’s history. With real interviews of players/families shown between levels, you don’t just have to rely on the back of the baseball card to try and get the full picture of what it was like for these athletes back in their prime.
Is the game perfect? No. But there sure is a lot to love. To me, San Diego Studios put out one of its best games in a while, and I can’t wait to play it some more tonight.
So what do you think? Is it too outlandish of a claim or could it be the best one yet? Share your reactions in the comments below or join in the conversation on Boss Rush Network’s Discord and Facebook.
