Nintendo is at it again with another recent patent filing. Filed back on October 24th, 2023, from inventor Takahiro Okuda of Nintendo Japan was published May 2nd, 2024. This patent abstract reads as follows.
At least a pose that a first object having a first 3D model adopts in a virtual space is controlled. According to a first command based on an operation input, at least first pose data related to the pose of the first object at the time of the first command is stored into a storage. According to a second command based on an operation input, a second object having the first 3D model is disposed in the virtual space, in a pose based on the first pose data.
This abstract as you can see is completely abstract but given further flow charts on sheets 18-21 Figures 18 -21. It seems that that if the user meets the criteria, it will start an event that deals with poses potentially utilizing various items or weapons. Rendering these will create how the character reacts in the virtual space based on the objects selected and the 3D models relative bounding box in that space. Also, we see diagrams of the Nintendo Switch so if this is related to a game it could be one we have not seen for later this year. Most of the jargon is not all that thrilling but it is the pictures as well as the inventor that placed this patent that is causing a bit more buzz.

The creator of the patent Takahiro Okuda has only worked on two different series for Nintendo, the first one being the Mario Kart series and the second one being The Legend of Zelda series. He has dabbled in The Wind Waker HD and Breath of the Wild. Now if you look at the pictures that are within this document, they show a player and an opponent who wield swords as well as a sheet that discussed other weapon types. To me the pictures showcase something adventure related and since he has worked on games within the Zelda franchise and Mario Kart doesn’t fit within this patents scope, I think we are looking at something made for The Legend of Zelda.
As always everyone, plenty of patents are filed every day, but most do not see the light of day. This means this could mean absolutely nothing or the opposite. We shall see what games come out in the future. Do you think this patent is related to a future release of a certain Hyrule based game or do you find it just generic for use in any upcoming games from Nintendo? Read more into the patent to discover your own thoughts and theories. Let us know what you get out of this document.
