There are so many different game developers today that it gets difficult to find new games that aren’t squashed down by major releases and popular, ongoing games. So, what’s the best ways to find new indie games?
The first option is pretty easy. Most game stores will have a “New Releases” feature. These pages will list newly released games that are available through that platform. Both Steam and Epic Games have such pages that make it easy for players to find new games. A lot of these can come with hidden gems but can often take quite a few scrolls through to find a game that interests players.
Another method is through social media. I personally use TikTok more often than not since my “For You Page” caters to my interests better as I use it more frequently. Many developers utilize social media in order to promote their games and show the development of said games. I discovered one of my favorite games, A Date With Death, through this method. This method also allows players to continue to follow the developer and see future games they may create.
Following a similar train of thought, YouTubers and streamers are also a great way to discover new releases. There’s no one better to ask than someone who gets paid in the industry, right? I think of so many new and obscure titles that became well-known because of YouTubers and streamers. A prominent example for me is Chilla’s Art, a developer that made several horror games and frequently trends because of said content creators.
My last avenue of finding new releases is a bit different from my previous tips. In fact, I don’t frequently use this tip myself to find games but rather it’s my brothers who do. They often play different kinds of Roblox games. Roblox is a great starting point for new developers to mess around with video game development and learn the ropes. There are a lot of great ideas and games that started as a Roblox game and developed into a larger, separate project. However, sifting through the many different Roblox games can be similar to scrolling through the “New Releases” page. It’s looking for a diamond in the rough.
With the internet, the world has become more connected in terms of communication. New video game developers are able to better promote their work to the world through different avenues. I’ve only listed a few to help people find these new releases.
