Like everything Jim Henson worked on for a younger audience, Fraggle Rock is one of the truly great works in children’s art: never talking down to children as it encouraged them, but providing hidden depths for the audience to grow up alongside the series.
But it has perhaps been too long since we’ve watched the original Fraggle Rock, and really considered what the message of community and personal growth mean to us. Frootbats, an artist and cosplayer, produced a three-and-a-half-hour deep dive into the production and finished creation, and it is a welcome return.
The video is filled with details that even I, a long-time fan of Henson’s, did know now: ranging from the inspiration, the Muppet performances, and some of the exhausting realities of television production.
If you crave a return to Fraggle Rock, learning about one of Jim Henson’s less truly appreciated productions, this is the video for you.
