When was the last time you made something by hand? Stop scrolling, and really think about it. When did you last pick up a pen, or a brush, or clay or foam or the medium of your choice? When did you last write? When did you last build something?
It is too easy to scroll into infinity, burning yourself out even as you do nothing, instead of recharging yourself by activating your brain and creativity.
I won’t take up too much of your time. Instead, I’ll ask you to think about what projects you’ve had in mind. What haven’t you started, or finished? What creative work came immediately to mind, asking you to get to work on it? It’s okay if one didn’t, half the fun is deciding on one, but I suspect something immediately came to mind.
It doesn’t matter if you first effort—or first effort in some time—isn’t your best work. Making it is what matters, and you will improve. Your early works will be a testament to your improvement.
Start working on it today, with the goal of finishing it this year. Having a creative hobby will change your life. It’s changed mine.
