The developer Traptics announced Xenopurge, a real-time science fiction tactics title, casting the player in the role of a commander orchestrating humanity’s offence against an alien menace. The game is coming to Steam Q2, 2025, and will be funded by an upcoming Kickstarter.
In Xenopurge combines real-time tactics, autonomously operating units, and roguelite elements. Make quick strategic choices, as your squad’s lives depend on it.
The game draws clear inspiration from the displays of the Alien franchise, and Lt. Gorman’s mission command UI from Aliens. Inspired by the tension and Aliens and the claustrophobic corridors of Warhammer 40,000: Space Hulk, the developers seek to uphold their inspirations’ “retro-futuristic aesthetic and unnerving horror atmosphere.”
Operate from the safety of your remote command center, where every action, from issuing orders to monitoring your squad’s survival, is made through tactical displays and live mission feeds. You best make the right calls, or you’ll hear your squad’s screams in your ear…
By blending real-time strategy with a tight roguelite gameplay loop, Xenopurge challenges you to adapt to shifting mission objectives and lead a team of soldiers against overwhelming odds.
Mike Papagathangelou, CEO of Traptic, spoke about the playtest and Kickstarter.
“This is your chance to experience the game early and share your feedback directly with our team,” said Papagathangelou. “Your insights will play a pivotal role in shaping the game’s mechanics, features, and overall design.
“The playtest marks the first step in our journey to develop Xenopurge with the community’s input. We are also thrilled to share that our Kickstarter campaign will launch later in 2025, allowing us to expand the game’s scope and refine its vision further.”
The game features autonomous, customizable soldiers. The player tailors their loadouts, behaviors, and tactics, then sends them into missions where they perform autonomously. The player can still issue instructions in the moment. The player manages every aspect of the mission from their command center, viewing the action through live feeds, tactical displays, and sensor data.
The game has a roguelite’s core loop. No two missions are the same and every decision matters. “With the tension of permadeath looming over your shoulders countered with the satisfaction of roguelite continuous progression, you’ll shape your strategies to overcome the evolving threats.”
Xenopurge can be found on Kickstarter, and on Steam. The game will be available on Steam in Q2, 2025.
