Specs and photos of the next Nintendo console, nicknamed “Switch 2” by many, are leaking faster than any plumber can fix. Sorry, Mario. While rumors about this next console have been around for years, details and pictures have been circulating more frequently as of late, leading some to question if this is all an intentional marketing ploy to drum up hype. Do you think the Nintendo Switch 2 leaks are a marketing ploy?
Firstly, let’s take a look at a few examples of recent Nintendo Switch 2 leaks:
The latest leak (and who knows if there will be more as of this writing), are photos of the joy-cons from a source in China:
And here are more that claim to have specs on the console:
Lastly, a major “leak” came from Dbrand, who was reportedly designing a case for the Switch 2. Don’t believe us? Go to the site now and check it out for yourself!

So, is Nintendo a secret partner in the consistent drip of information online?
Intentional leaks can be a sly means of marketing and building hype, and in a sense, it could be seen as a means to control the message a company is trying to convey. However, I’m personally not in the camp that believes Nintendo is willingly allowing individuals to leak out bits of their next console.
Nintendo has always held a reputation for holding their cards extremely close to their chest and don’t rely on cheap means of promoting their hardware and games. If anything, Nintendo has been combating security issues for years, and these leaks are a common obstacle in today’s hyper-connected world.
However, I do find the very public Dbrand page for the Switch 2 case very interesting. It is not a reddit user or anonymous online entity. Dbrand is a well-known third-party vendor that makes cases and skins for various electronics. I’ve even purchased from them before. I highly doubt Dbrand would still have this page live if Nintendo had not approved of it. My best guess is that there were strict stipulations on what could be shown. And yet, the console is obscured ever so slightly by the case, and it’s hard to see any similarities with the recent leaked images…
Ultimately, no one knows what the next Nintendo console looks like or how it will perform. No matter how reliable the source, the leaks run the risk of communicating misinformation. And the internet has a solid history of funneling misinformation of all kinds.
I doubt Nintendo is too worried either. Odds are, they have a few tricks up their sleeve, and when they inevitably reveal the “Switch 2”, we will all be (hopefully pleasantly) suprised.
