Wargames Atlantic’s line The Age of Chivalry introduced a new kit of 28mm figures for use with Andy Hobday’s game The Barons’ War, or any 28mm wargame.
Sculpted by Rob Macfarline from original sculpts by Paul Hicks, the kit represents “Foot Serjeants” — “serjeant” derived from “serviens,” meaning to serve — which represent the lower-class warriors in a medieval army. Serjeants rose up through the ranks, very roughly the equivalent of a modern non-commissioned officer. “Professional soldiers,” explains Atlantic Wargames, “[the serjeants] were well armed and armored and played a significant role in the armies of the time.”
The sample units were painted by Steve Beckett, with an illustration by Peter Dennis. The miniatures are bought unpainted and require assembly.
The set includes 24 hard plastic Foot Serjeants who can be built in a variety of ways: units can be armed with falchions, spears, halberds, or crossbows and given a unique personality or style thanks to a number of head and shield choices. The miniatures are fully compatible with other models from the same range.
The Foot Serjeants are the third set in the range, following releases of Peasant Levy and Foot Knights. All models in the range are similarly sculpted by Rob Macfarline and Paul Hicks, providing a visual match across every unit. Together, they form a cohesive work of art.
The Foot Serjeant kit is available to pre-order from Wargames Atlantic. It is available globally on January 24, 2025.
