I’ve been spending the last week working with the Legend of Zelda Deku Tree LEGO set with my son. A Zelda-themed LEGO set was a long-time coming, as it’s another way to enjoy my favorite video game series. While the costs of LEGO sets are up for debate to many, I appreciate the level of detail and quality put into sets that can be enjoyed by children and adults alike.

LEGO has collaborated with many big names including Marvel, DC, Disney, Fortnite, Mario, and Sonic the Hedgehog. There are so many more opportunities for more collaborations with other video game franchises. Here of five good candidates (in no particular order):

Metroid

I think Samus’ gunship or Samus’ helmet would be a great set piece for a LEGO set. They are iconic, colorful, and striking, while the “blocky” nature of this sci-fi franchise would translate well. There is a wonderful helmet model sold by First4Figures that LEGO could take inspiration from. I also think that it would be good timing with Metroid Dread’s success, release of Metroid Prime Remastered, and future release of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.

Star Fox

Admittedly, it is easier to think of more “cartoon”-like franchises for a LEGO collab versus ones that take on more realistic graphics. At risk of sounding Nintendo-biased, I do think that the Great Fox from Star Fox 64 would be a fun set to put together (and wouldn’t look silly).

From there, LEGO could expand with arwings and various environments in the diverse Lylat system. The bonus is that if Nintendo plans on reviving the Star Fox franchise, then a collaboration with LEGO would be a great way to advertise the series.

Final Fantasy

Oh, the opportunities with the Final Fantasy series. I could probably write a novella-length article about which games and areas could be transformed into a LEGO set. But I think that is what makes Final Fantasy a wonderful collaboration candidate. While Final Fantasy may not be as known to “non-gamers” as, say, Mario, but it is big enough to straddle both lines and perhaps draw sales from kids and adults alike.

Examples of what could make fabulous LEGO sets include Magitek armor or Atma weapon from Final Fantasy VI, Midgar from Final Fantasy VII, the Balamb Garden from Final Fantasy VIII, any of the airships from the series, any of the summons, and Eikons such as Ifrit from Final Fantasy XVI (and have Ben Star run some silly promotion as he normally does). Monster Hunter

Now, this is a tricky one. There are iconic and epic monsters that could be recreated masterfully in a LEGO set; however, I understand the risk of giving them a cartoonish look. Top monsters that I’d love to build is: Malzeno from Monster Huner Rise: Sunbreak, Legiana, Rathalos, and Mizutsune.

Baldur’s Gate (3)

There is an amazing number of buildings, vistas, and landmarks from Baldur’s Gate, namely Baldur’s Gate 3, that could be replicated by LEGO. And I know fans of the series would love to pay homage to the franchise by building a 3,000+ piece set.

Various locations include buildings within Baldur’s Gate itself, Emerald Grove, Grymforge, Astral Plane, and the Nautiloid ship.
