Infinity Nikki has a rich lore hidden in its open-world elements as well as the outfits’ flavor texts. The writers of the game have gone above and beyond in creating mystical tales and inspiring stories with their outfits, giving each piece a beloved history.
In fact, I have heard comparisons between the Nikki franchise writing and Dark Souls writing, both having similarly deep and intriguing elements that evoke the heart. Here are the top ten souls-like quotes from Infinity Nikki.
10. “God once granted her wings to soar in dreams but took them back, unintentionally forging true love into a tangible shape.”
From the Fairytale Swan: Mystfire outfit, the gloves named Trial of Wings continue a fairy tale about a swan’s love. Although, in the current evolution of the outfit, the swan’s love is out of reach and her own freedom is questioned. I personally love a rendition of the Swan Lake and the mythos around it.
9. “Scattered glimmers leap and crackle between tender blades of grass, yet to the lost child, that faint glow shines as brightly as the morning sun.”
The Beacon of Hope, from the Stardust Flare outfit. It is inspired by fireworks, a true wonder of childhood for many people. Something so simplistic can make a child’s eyes gleam. I think we all liked to seek out little lights in the dark when we were young.
8. “Perhaps the spring breeze is the world’s first bard, its verses echoing across the spring meadows, purifying the land and bringing new lives.”
The game’s first purification outfit, Wind of Purity. Just as its name implies, it signifies the purification of dark and evil herald by the wind and spring. I quite enjoyed the quote for creating an embodiment of life and renewal through the element of wind.
7. “The crackling flames drowned out the cries for help. The fire leaped mercilessly, devouring all those fleeing in vain. Their desperate wails were snuffed out as the kingdom was pushed toward a silent end.”
Flickering Silence, the necklace of the Blooming Dreams: Phoenix. It’s an evolution form of the first limited five-star outfit and tells the tale of a fairy who brings life. And yet, in this edition of the story, the fairy is greeted with a curse placed upon them – a bringing of death.
6. “There’s no need to worry, for thousands of lanterns behind you will light the way ahead. There’s no need for confusion, for even darkness fears the sincere prayers and warm-hearted wishes that hang upon the shoulders of those who journey in the night.”
Another limited five-star from the Fireworks Festival. The Sunlit Blessings is an accessory from Dance Till Dawn: Nightlight. It’s a cycle of stories about a journey of hope and adventure through dance and fireworks. I personally love how despite the darkness that enshrouds the land of Infinity Nikki, forever is there a ray of hope embodied in the people.
5. “The dead valley echoed with cries of despair. The once-gentle god offered no reply, and only the desolate wind scattered the laments.”
In the final evolution of the Wishful Aurosa: Shadow, the headpiece Fading Away speaks of a tragic end to what began as a mystical birth of life and spirits. A God’s voice can no longer be heard, and Nikki herself has to roam this land that has been abandoned.
4. “Young dreams are like an unfinished melody; when the final note falls, all effort and perseverance are beautifully captured in that single moment.”
The Jade Prelude, a bow that is a part of the Jade Dreams outfit. As a free three-star outfit given to all players, I had little expectations for its flavor text. And yet this resonated with me. I think everyone had a grand dream as a child, my own being a world-wide singer who taught children on the side. The nostalgic smile that comes to my face remembering makes me feel warm inside.
3. “I want to see a broader world and explore a more distant future. If I never stop moving, does the world truly have no end?”
The first four-star outfit given to all players of Infinity Nikki, Far and Away. It was one of the first flavor text I read in Days and Nights, a pair of socks of all things, that drew me closer in the game’s lore. How could such a simple idea, a pair of socks, remind me of how vast the world was in the game and in reality?
2. “One flap of the butterfly’s wings heralds rebirth, while the other ushers in destruction. The shadow of disaster hangs over the coast, with mourning flames that never fade, mirroring the hazy dusk reflected in her eyes.”
Another one of the first limited five-star outfits in the game, the Flutter Storm: Fire Song was an outfit I greatly wanted but couldn’t get. And yet, the dress, Embers of the Butterfly, told a different story from what I imagined. It was one of the first glimpses I had to Infinity Nikki following its predecessors’ steps in creating a dark, intriguing world that has started to rebuild itself.
1. “Even trapped in a grand conspiracy, even against an opponent that seems invisible, there were still brave souls who clung to hope in the face of certain doom.”
Although Infinity Nikki is not a game focused around combat, that does not mean there are no adversaries. There is more to battle than the clashing of swords; it can even be a person’s own very sense of self. I like to think that it acknowledges how the definition of war goes beyond the battlefield.
