In a surprise move on Friday, Microsoft revealed that it will once again raise the prices of the Xbox Series X and Series S consoles in the United States. This marks the second hike of the year, with the increases set to affect every model currently on the market.

The standard Xbox Series X with a disc drive is taking the biggest leap, climbing from $599.99 to $649.99. The original Xbox Series S with 512GB of storage will rise to $399.99, up from $379.99. Other versions are also seeing bumps, with the 1TB Series S will now cost $449.99, the digital-only Series X will be $599.99, and the Galaxy Black 2TB Series X will top out at $799.99.
Microsoft pointed to “a changing macroeconomic environment” as the reason behind the increases. In a statement to Windows Central, the company explained, “We are navigating an incredibly dynamic environment right now. We’ve assessed the changing macroeconomic environment and addressed the applicable impacts.”
The new prices take effect on October 3rd, but only in the United States. Other regions will remain unaffected. Acknowledging the move’s impact, Microsoft added, “We understand that these changes are challenging, and they were made with careful consideration. Looking ahead, we continue to focus on offering more ways to play more games across any screen and providing value for Xbox players.”
This comes just months after Microsoft raised prices on consoles, games, and accessories in several regions back in May. With this latest adjustment, the cost of joining the Xbox ecosystem continues to climb.
How will this affect new consumers interested in joining the Xbox ecosystem? Let us know in the comments or in our Discord.
