Many of the intriguing side quests of Ghost of Yotei involve myths, one of which is The Undying Samurai in the Ishikari Plains. Once you run into the storyteller in Ishikari, you can embark on this quest to find four windchimes and locate the Undying Samurai (you can tackle the wind chimes in any order). If defeated, you’ll earn the Armour of the Undying.

Location One
This one is near the storyteller; however, be wary of the very aggro bear in the vicinity. See the white location marker below:

Grab the wind chime hanging on the branch above the dead man’s body.

Locate the Subsequent Wind Chimes
You can swipe up on the touchpad to bring up your first wind chime. You will notice a slight breeze and vibration in the controller if you are headed in the right direction of another wind chime. It can be subtle at first. So, you can experiment with this mechanic…or continue reading below!
Location Two
Head to Nakagoya Springs to the east. See the location below.

There is nothing notable about this encounter as you grab this wind chime.

Location Three
This next location is next to the Rumoi River, amidst the purple flowers and near a twisted tree.

There is a Ronin raiding the body, and you must kill him in order to obtain the wind chime.

Location Four
Lastly, head to the Stone Jaw Coast.

The body is suspended in the air. Use your grappling hook to pull the body off. Then, climb down to obtain the wind chime.

Find the Undying Samurai
Once you obtain all four wind chimes, you must still locate the Undying Samurai. Use the same detection technique by following the rumble and wind when holding the wind chime up (or keep reading). Your goal is to head to one of the most western points in the Ishikari map.

The vibrations and wind will grow stronger as you draw near.

Continue to follow the route down this cliff, and you will end up in a cave. It’s pretty straightforward, so grapple your way to the other end.

Hang the Wind Chimes
You will eventually be back outdoors at a dead end. It is windy, and armor is eerily hanging from poles. In the ankle-deep water, there are four poles to hang the wind chimes. Once you do so, you will summon and battle the Undying Samurai, so make sure you are at full health and spirit.

Fight the Undying Samurai
The Undying Samurai is much like the other “mini bosses” of the game. He has several blue light attacks that you can counter but be wary of ones that he does in quick succession. I there are a few red-light moves you can’t counter such as a stomp kick. In the latter half of the battle, he will also attempt to disarm you. He is a quick and nimble opponent, so either master your counters or don’t stop moving.

Once you defeat him, you have access to his armor, and the Undying Samurai may now rest in peace.
