The Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase revealed a new game with an older anime-style look called Orbitals. This new Nintendo Switch-exclusive game will be released this summer. Orbitals follows the catastrophe of a cosmic storm that changed the universe. 15 years have passed. and society has remade itself into a new era of peace. However, the warning of another cosmic storm can ruin everything. Two protagonists, Maki and Omura, are embarking on a galactic adventure to find answers and to prevent the coming disaster.
Orbitals is a two-person game with different mechanics to help solve the puzzles for the game’s platforming challenges. There are three main mechanics to help players. First is the scraphook which is a long hook that can grab and pull out platforms. The liquid launcher can blast water and apply weight or pressure in order to move mechanisms. It also works as a cooler to help cool down surfaces and making it safe for the other player to walk across. The last tool is a beam cannon that fires a laser of extreme heat which can destroy obstacles in the player’s path and open doors. The game will focus on utilizing these tools together in unique ways to help players to solve puzzles.
Orbitals will have GameShare available which will allow only one player to own the game and play it with another Switch locally and online.
The game appears to be a similar style to It Takes Two and Split Fiction which relies on a partnership to clear the platforming challenges. It looks like a great game to play with your friends and family while also on a quest to save the world. The game will be releasing sometime this summer, so be sure to check it out if it sounds interesting.
