PAX East 2026
The Good Story Guild returns to the PAX East Exhibit Hall. With another year down in development, we caught up with the team to see what’d changed for Cat Secretary. [If you are curious about our initial coverage in more detail, read the article I had written HERE].
What is Cat Secretary?
Cat Secretary is an indie game currently in development, starring an adorable calico kitty who settles into…well, a secretary position in a corporation, DOX, Inc., run by humans. As mentioned in my initial coverage, the core narrative lies in its pro-human story, challenging the notion that the creativity and imperfections of human nature is contrary to maximizing profit. It’s a relatable them, as we content with AI’s role in the workplace. Serious theme aside, Cat Secretary is a cute and cozy adventure game where you accomplish menial office tasks in the form of fun puzzles but also solve other “side quests” for humans or that talking mouse in a suit.
What’s the Scoop?
The Good Story Guild team filled us in with some behind the scenes updates. Since last year, they’ve primarily focused on adding more dialogue, adding art assets, improving UI, completing features, and applying polish. Polish, polish, polish. The team mentioned that they had to reconsider the release date to ensure a high-quality product, and we couldn’t agree more.
I sat down and played the demo, and while not much has changed from a content standpoint, there was still so much to enjoy. You are onboarded as the new secretary, and you learn the various tasks. I enjoyed the mini games you play in order to optimize the router, sorting files, and refilling coffee (without getting electrocuted!).

The stealth mission was also a lot of fun, although I wasn’t very good at it. I was too busy hitting the meow button, scratching, and just causing utter chaos. There were some moments where the cat appeared to be gliding while I pressed the meow/action button while moving, but overall, the experience felt smooth and enjoyable. The writing was witty and cute, and overall, I felt that sense of cohesiveness — like the engine beneath the hood was running tight and smooth.

Fun Stuff
I had to ask my usual question to the Good Story Guild. If they were given the opportunity to release a Cat Secretary Collector’s Edition physical with no budget, what would they include in it? My heart warmed as I saw lights go off in their eyes. In the end, they settled with a game manual, stickers or pins, and perhaps maybe a cat collar like the one worn in the game. Fingers crossed that this dream could come true one day! Until then, my colleague Pat and I enjoyed catching up with this dev team, and we look forward to the full release, which should be some time later this year.
Stay tuned for more updates on Cat Secretary and all things indie! Until then, check them out and WISHLIST the game on Steam. Also, the trailer is below for your viewing pleasure:
