More unofficial casting news dropped for the 2027 live-adaptation of the Legend of Zelda film. It’s the first bit of information about the movie in several months, and fans are hoping for a trailer soon. Now that we know some more actors and actresses behind characters beyond Link and Zelda, I’m feeling quite positive that the film is headed in the right direction. Why? Let’s dive in.

We now know that Uli Latukefu will assume the role of Ganondorf while Dichen Lachman will embody Zelda’s bodyguard, Impa. The late Sam Neill also will be in the film, although his role has not been identified yet. Lastly, we also see Yvonne Strahovski and Lydia Peckham credited as having roles in the film while Samara Weaving is rumored to be cast (likely as Hylia).

When The Legend of Zelda movie was first announced, there were plenty of jokes about casting Tom Holland as Link. While a fantastic actor, the joke touched upon a genuine sense of fatigue around leveraging large blockbuster actors to get butts in seats. Many balked at several choices that Illumination and Nintendo made for voice acting in The Super Mario Bros. Movie like Chris Pratt and Seth Rogen. Although I care more about the performance than the name, I understand that level of actor-fatigue and genuinely hoped for a fresh-faced cast for the Zelda movie.
With that said, I was pleased with the current roster and feel that it is the best direction for Wes Ball. By avoiding larger-than-life actors, we avoid “spillover” from previous roles (e.g. Daniel Radcliffe who will likely always be remembered for his role as Harry Potter and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine). Fresh faces will give the Zelda movie room to breathe and depending on whether Nintendo wants to make this a multi-movie project, perhaps these actors can create new identities for these franchise characters.
Of course, these actors are far from green:
Uli Latukefu
This tall, imposing actor can be seen in shows and movies such as Young Rock, Black Adam, and Alien: Covenant.
Dichen Lachman
You can find Dichen in both television and movie roles such as Jurassic Word: Dominion, and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.
Yvonne Strahovski
This Aussie actress can be found in The Handmaid’s Tale, The Predator (2018), Dexter, Stateless, and more.

Lydia Peckham
Lydia’s most recent works are in The Burning of Broken Beak, The Wrecking Crew, The Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, and the Robin Hood television series.

The current list of actors and actresses maintain the balance of both experience and that clean slate, so they don’t bring another identity into the Zelda film. This is the direction I had hoped casting would go with, and I firmly believe this will work to its advantage. The Legend of Zelda is a titan of a franchise in the video game realm, and with Nintendo ready and willing to expand to other media to introduce the Hero of Courage to the masses, it is best to avoid casting A-list actors that could influence its reception.
