In true Nintendo fashion, they saved the best for last. Eiji Aonuma rounded out the end of E3’s Nintendo Direct with Legend of Zelda news. After showcasing the Game and Watch system to celebrate Zelda’s 35th anniversary, Aonuma mentioned one last thing… Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 is still in the works, and he was excited to share more footage.
Fans finally received a teaser trailer for the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel which will be released in 2022!
In the trailer, we witness malice take hold of Link’s arm, and a mummified Ganon raises his arms. Zelda falls into the abyss, then the trailer cuts to Link sailing across the skies. Link unleashes new abilities with his modified arm–some of which appears to be the manipulation of water and ability to pass through solid objects. It ends with a mournful tune and the image of Hyrule castle hovering over tendrils of malice.
It is also worth noting that there are lots of Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword vibes between the color pallets, “islands” hovering in the sky, and the design of some machines.
Fans will recall that the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel was first announced at E3 2019. Nintendo has been tight-lipped for two years before updating us with this teaser trailer.
