So, Then I Just Backed it: A Series on My Kickstarter Adventures (Part 4)

4–5 minutes

In this portion of my Kickstarter series, I just wanted to chat about some of the games that I have backed, played, and currently am backing. Maybe this will interest some of you, while I’m sure others will take a quick glance at some facts or details I provided about them. So, let’s have a look, shall we?

I have backed around 40 projects over the span of almost six years now on this platform, and out of these 40, 28 of them are, or were, games. Out of those 28 projects, I had only one fail–Kumo: A Boy in the Clouds (Read Part 2). Out of the remaining 27, only four games have released, two of which I have played through, and two I have not. It’s a very small amount of games to have crossed the finish line, but game development can take years.

A lot of factors could cause delays, especially if these are first time developers who are new to every aspect around creating a game: legal, marketing, finance, design, engineering, programming, artwork, and the list goes on. Many hats must be worn in the process, though, I assume, like most of the gaming world, the biggest delay is that of the pandemic.

It takes hard work, time, and sacrifice to make games. Though I have not made a published game, I do have my Bachelor of Science in Digital Entertainment and Game Design and have had many projects based on game creation that took hours of time and effort, not only as one person, but also as a team. Obstacles in one’s life are to be expected, and with time, you can perfect the techniques in which you can overcome them. Let’s see the games in the order I backed them:

  • Summer in Mara – by Chibig – Adventure game – Released June 16th, 2020

  • Ankora: Lost Days – by Chibig – Exploration Adventure – Backing Phase
  • Kokopa’s Atlas – by HyperMegaPixel – Exploration Survival Adventure – Backing Phase

As you can see, this is a pretty extensive list of indie titles that I wanted to see the light of day. So many people strive to get there ideas to come to life, and sometimes people just need help to make that dream a reality. So, if you see something you think you may like on Kickstarter, pick a tier and back them both financially and vocally. Share the project, and tell others why you are excited to back it. Support can come in many forms, and those who want to obtain their dreams truly appreciate every way in which it reaches them. What type of ways do you like to support others in there endeavors?

I want you as a person to be excited to use Kickstarter, and I’m showing you the games I have backed to showcase the variety of all the different games being made. This is just a small bouquet of what is on Kickstarter, as I like certain types of games on certain platforms. Plus, these cost money, so you need to budget accordingly. Just remember to do your research, and select the tier in which you feel happy and most comfortable selecting–then enjoy the journey!
