As we get towards the end of the year, I am excited to still have opportunities to come across people who are diving into Kickstarter for the first time. I am always impressed with the time and care that they put into having a successful campaign and the efforts that go on behind the scenes to prepare for deadlines and the unknowns. So, let’s look at the next project I was fortunate to back.

Fragment is an indie game made by Wakely Co. that was successfully funded on September 18th, 2025. Fragment is an abstract 3D space, with slight horror elements, that you explore to relive different pivotal moments in your life. The object is to process the fragments of bad memories to progress while the option of seeking out good memory fragments is up to the player. The player can decide how to use these fragments to alter the story of your life. The question the team raises is, “Can you break the loop?”

I had the pleasure of interviewing David Fuery a game developer and the head of community engagement. Their company Wakely Co. is based in Devon, United Kingdom. David provided me with an early access/closed beta version of the steam game to play and experience for myself. After playing the beta, I saw the circular setup of the level, and you would phase in an out of areas searching for fragments and trying not to drown in what I assume is the bad memories welling up from the floor. I came across many items you would find in your childhood. A toy train, stuffed animals, and a bunk bed. You kept taking on the loop. I have played it on and off and I cannot wait to try it once it has been polished. It also has a healthy 54 achievements to obtain on Steam.
So, let’s get into the informative part of the article, the part I enjoy reading the most, the interview.
Interview Questions.
Who are you and what role do you play in your company?
I’m David Fuery, game developer and head of community engagement for Wakely Co.
Tell us about Wakely Co and its History?
Wakely Co is a small indie dev studio currently composed of myself and my co-founders: Ollie Bradford and Liam Wakely. As a company, Wakely Co doesn’t have a long history (having recently been incorporated for the development and release of Fragment), but as a trio our history goes back a decade. We met as students attending a software engineering course at college. Since then, we’ve been pursuing careers in the software industry and making game projects independently on the side.
Wakely Co is the manifestation of the three of us joining forces with the goal of making game development our day job, rather than something we have to cram into our schedules wherever we can.
Have you used Kickstarter before or is this your first experience with it?
This is our first time using Kickstarter. As a first experience it has been trial by fire, but with a successful campaign behind us, we’re very grateful to the Kickstarter platform and all of our backers for supporting our journey.
What do you like about Kickstarter?
What I like most about Kickstarter is having a direct route of connection with our supporters. Instead of hiding behind the Steam storefront I’ve been able to reach out to personally thank the people that have supported our project and our journey.
How was Fragment conceptualized?
The original version of Fragment was created in just four days by Ollie and Liam as a submission for the GMTK 2025 Game Jam, their aim was to create a story-based horror that takes place within a looping space.
Following on from the game jam I joined the team to start making the game jam version into a full game for public release. Whilst the underlying concept and mechanics remain largely unchanged since then, we’ve doubled the gameplay and added in a whole host of additional features and quality of life improvements.
Who or what drives your motivation behind this project?
Whilst my love for gaming and game development, and the successful Kickstarter campaign backed by eager players are huge factors in my motivation, I’d say that the most important motivation has come from within the team.
There have been many days when the workload vs deadline ratio has felt insurmountable, but the passion and commitment of the team always breaks through.
What inspires you in your career and personal life within the gaming industry?
I get an immense amount of satisfaction from solving puzzles, which games, both as a player and a developer, are an endless source of.
What I really enjoy about game development is the variety of the problems needing to be solved. No two problems are ever the same, even the same problem in two different games will likely have completely different solutions.
Any advice for people thinking about starting a Kickstarter campaign?
Be ready for a lot of admin…
Kickstarter has a really nice interface that guides you through the journey step by step, holding your hand along the way… but there is still a lot that goes into setting up a campaign.
Even once you’ve set up your account and written out your campaign and ironed out all the financial details, you need to keep your supporter community up to date with developments and track fulfilment to make sure that everyone gets their rewards!
Where can people reach out to you?
These days I’ve disconnected from most forms of social media for the sake of my sanity, but can be
found on LinkedIn [https://www.linkedin.com/in/david-fuery-b19906109/]. Wakely Co can be found on
Facebook [https://www.facebook.com/wakelyco].
Bonus question: What are your favorite video game franchises? Have you heard of Boss Rush Network before this Interview?
My favorite franchise of all time will always be Saint’s Row – even the reboot. But with that one looking deader than a dodo, second place goes to Resident Evil.
I had not heard of Boss Rush Network before this interview, but I’ve been enjoying content since we connected and will be stopping by frequently henceforth!

Thank You!
I want to thank David for answering the interview questions I provided so thoroughly. The answers provided much insight for myself, and I hope to the readers of this article as well. It really shows how passionate one can be on a project and that echoes throughout the ones that encounter it. I hope you enjoyed it.
As usual I personally want to one day be part of a Kickstarter campaign to see for myself the challenging work that goes into the whole ordeal. For now, I will continue my Kickstarter journey, so please check out my past series and if you have a campaign that you would like me to interview you on or check out, please let me know. Contact and reach out to (Stillsaneshane) I would love to hear from you. Remember to keep making and backing those amazing projects!
