The wait for the next wave of courses from the Booster Course Pass for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still under way. The next wave is expected to be announced and released soon in order to follow the timeline provided of releasing six total waves by the end of 2023. However, the mod community is continuously tweaking games to fit their wildest visions. Youtube user Squadaloo has recently shared his Sonic the Hedgehog themed course from the introductory area: Green Hill Zone.
The course is quite impressive. The racers are greeted with the familiar logo from the Sonic series at the start/finish line. Landscapes are filled with the trees, flowers, bridges, and waterfalls you would expect from a Sonic game. Players race around on a checkered track involving hills, ramps, twists, and of course loops to give a true feeling of being in Green Hill Zone. The music is properly used from the Sonic Generations version of Green Hill Zone to tie the whole course together. The only thing missing would be gold rings in replace of coins.
The next 40 courses for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe are designed from previous Mario Kart games, but I wish a different approach would take place. Courses from The Legend of Zelda, F-Zero, and Animal Crossing series have been introduced and there are countless game series that would work as well. Levels from Mega Man, Kirby, and Final Fantasy would feel right at home in the Mario Kart franchise.
How do you want the Mario Kart franchise to evolve after the Booster Course Pass ends in 2023? Would you like a “Nintendo” Kart or a Smash Bros. approach to the kart racing series? Let us know in the comments below.
