New Courses, Release Date Unveiled for Wave 5 of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC

Nintendo recently unveiled a release date and the next eight courses heading to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Wave 5 will release on July 12 and will include eight courses and three new racers. Nintendo initially announced the wave during its June 21 Direct, but only revealed the new characters and a new course called Squeaky Clean Sprint.

Pump up those tires, Wave 5 is almost here! Eight additional courses and three returning characters come to the #MarioKart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass on 7/12.

The eight new courses will be available in two cups:

Feather Cup

Athens Dash (Mario Kart Tour)
Daisy Cruiser (Mario Kart: Double Dash!!)
Moonview Highway (Mario Kart Wii)
Squeaky Clean Sprint

Cherry Cup

Los Angeles Lap (Mario Kart Tour)
Sunset Wild (Mario Kart Super Circuit)
Koopa Cape (Mario Kart Wii)
Vancouver Velocity (Mario Kart Tour)

The three new racers to the game are also throwbacks. Petey Piranha (Mario Kart: Double Dash!!), Wiggler (Mario Kart 7), and Kamek (Mario Kart Tour) will join Wave 4’s Birdo as playable characters.

Wave 5 is the penultimate round of DLC for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with Wave 6 slated for some time before the end of the year. So far, the DLC has added 40 new tracks to the game, which is Nintendo’s best-selling game on the Switch with 53.79 million copies sold.

Mario Kart 8 originally released in 2014 on the Wii U, becoming the best-selling game on the console with about 8.46 million sales. Nintendo ported the game to the Switch with various upgrades in 2017.

During the February 2022 Nintendo Direct, the company revealed it would release its Booster Course Pass, which would add 48 new courses to the game over six waves. The pass is available for purchase or is free for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers.
