Sonic Frontiers has a new trailer and set release after SEGA revealed new details on the upcoming game featuring the Blue Blur.
SEGA made the reveal Tuesday, Aug. 23 as part of Gamescom 2022, an annual trade fair for video games in Germany. The release date is set for Nov. 8, 2022 with the game releasing on Nintendo Switch, XBox Series X/S, and PlayStation 4 and 5.
The trailer featured Sonic saving a small creature from robots and another mechanical character claiming Sonic’s “reckless actions endanger the world.”
The rest of the trailer showcases further level designs including city, desert, jungle, and many other options. There also appears to be a mixture of 2-D and 3-D platforming similar to Super Mario Galaxy.
Sonic also speaks in the trailer, which also features a cameo of a trapped Amy. The trailer ends with Sonic appearing to have a virus on his arm but still attempting to fight the mysterious mechanical creature from the beginning only to find she has a much larger robot waiting from him.
The official synopsis for the game, according to SEGA, reads:
Worlds are colliding in Sonic the Hedgehog’s newest high-speed adventure! In search of the missing Chaos emeralds, Sonic becomes stranded on an ancient island teeming with unusual creatures. Battle hordes of powerful enemies as you explore a breathtaking world of action, adventure, and mystery. Accelerate to new heights and experience the thrill of high-velocity, open-zone platforming freedom as you race across the five massive Starfall Islands. Jump into adventure, wield the power of the Ancients, and fight to stop these new mysterious foes.–SEGA
There’s been a lot of speculation and opinions on this game as well as a lot of cynicism. I get it but I am so excited for this release.
I might be easy to please but the trailer has me so intrigued although it really didn’t reveal much of the story. It did reveal what appears to be a more serious tone, which could be interesting.
I’m not a diehard Sonic fan and I haven’t played consistently since the 2D days of the ‘90s but this game has piqued my interest significantly.
