SEGA has announced that Sonic Frontiers‘ first promised free update — Sights, Sounds, and Speed — will make it’s way to all major consoles on March 22.
The game’s first of three feature upgrades will include new Challenge modes, a picture option, and a Jukebox where players can listen to their favorite Sonic music.
The Cyber Space Challenge and Combat Rush are additional Challenge modes that may be accessible after finishing the main storyline. The former is a time trial mode in which players race through numerous Cyber Space stages in succession, while the latter is a timed battle game in which players fight multiple adversaries and bosses in succession.
A Photo Mode will also be introduced to the game, allowing players to record and edit screenshots of their adventures with Sonic, while the Jukebox will let players listen to 53 songs released through new Sound Memories treasures scattered around the islands.
Crush 40’s “Open Your Heart” and “Live & Learn” from Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 have been confirmed to appear. Additionally, according to SEGA screenshots, the Jukebox includes “Reach For The Stars” (Sonic Colors Ultimate), “Seaside Hill” (Sonic Heroes), “Deep Woods” (Sonic and the Black Knight), “Wave Ocean” (Sonic the Hedgehog), “Sand Oasis” (Sonic and the Hidden Rings), and “Green Coast — Act 2” (Sonic Generations).
SEGA revealed its 2023 content roadmap, confirming that Update 2 will celebrate Sonic’s birthday on June 23 and will be adding an Open Zone Challenge and a new Koco. In addition, the final update of 2023 will add a new character and story content.
