It’s been over a year since the release of Aliens: Fireteam Elite; during that time, Cold Iron Studios has slowly released new content, following their Year One Road Map, and most significantly, released the “Pathogen” DLC this past August. Now that the hive resin has settled, let’s talk about the marine loadout kits.
Players can select one of the following seven loadouts when preparing to deploy on a mission:
- Gunner
- Demolisher
- Technician
- Doc
- Recon
- Phalanx
- Lancer
Each of these loadout kits has unique capabilities and leads players to divergent play styles. One of the key design features of Aliens: Fireteam Elite is replayability. The game’s developers created fifteen unique missions that require players to work collaboratively, particularly on advanced difficulty settings. Mastering this kind of collaboration requires practice, encouraging players to run these missions repeatedly.
Advanced players tend to favor one or two loadout kits, opting to specialize their skill sets rather than taking a generalist approach. Because the game allows players a myriad of customization options on their loadout kit board, players can choose perks and specializations that specifically align with the challenges of particular levels or with their preferred tactical approach. The game allows players to save multiple presets within the same loadout kit.

While I aim to master all seven loadout kits, I must confess I love some more than others. If I’m running a mission on insane and working with a crew that collaborates well, I’ll opt for Recon or Technician. Perhaps the Doc in a pinch. I love playing the support role. However, if I just want to have fun, nothing beats the Demolisher with micro-rockets equipped.
