EA to Release Three Marvel Games, Beginning with Iron Man

2–4 minutes

Electronic Arts has entered into a partnership with Marvel, and have agreed to develop three video games based on characters from the comic book publisher.

Last week, EA announced on their official website that a brand new single-player, third-person, action-adventure Iron Man game has begun development at their Montreal based Motive Studio. The project is being led by Olivier Proulx, who has previously produced Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy as well as Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.

EA promises that the game will let players truly experience what it’s like to be Iron Man, a character with “complexity, charisma, and creative genius.”

Currently there has been no indication from either EA or Marvel what other properties will be the focus of the three game deal, but the game developer has plenty to choose from, including the classic Fantastic Four, the extraordinary X-Men, the incredible Hulk, and more.

Marvel based video games have largely been successful in recent years, with Sony publishing Marvel’s Spider-Man and Miles Morales to great acclaim. In addition, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy proved to be a critical darling, though sales failed to meet the expectations of publisher Square-Enix. Most notably, Marvel’s Avengers, also published by Square-Enix, was subject to numerous controversies, mixed reviews, and disappointing sales figures.

A second Spider-Man game, and a title based on Wolverine are also in development, both coming from Sony’s Insomniac Games studio.

Electronic Arts has a long working history with Marvel’s parent company Disney. Recently, EA has been the leader in publishing games based on the Star Wars franchise; EA released Battlefront games in both 2015 and 2017, along with Star Wars: Squadrons in 2020, and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order in 2019, with a sequel planned for release next year.

Developer Motive Studio was founded in 2015 by former Ubisoft executive and producer Jade Raymond. They collaborated with DICE and Criterion Games in developing Star Wars Battlefront II, and have been the lead developer of Star Wars: Squadrons and a remake of the 2008 survival horror title Dead Space.

Are you excited about this news? Do you think EA will do the Iron Man property justice? Would you rather see the game come from another developer/publisher? Sound off in the comments section below, as well as on our social media sites!
