New Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Trailer Gives One More Look Before Release, Teases Possible New Variant

With only 10 days to go until the Ninth Generation of Pokémon is upon us, the Pokémon Company has dropped what may be our last glimpse at Pokémon Scarlet and Violet before the games drop worldwide November 18th. The trailer didn’t reveal too much that we didn’t already know, but did feature a few prominent details. Watch the trailer below.

Many fans are claiming the trailer is a glorified music video for Ed Sheeran’s song “Celestial,” and while the song plays over the entirety of the trailer, there are a few interesting tidbits we learned from this. First were some in-game goodies such as Rotom Phone cases based on prior Switch games such as Pokémon Legends: Arceus or Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. There were also a few more lines of dialogue from NPCs hinting at different story beats across the games’ three overlapping adventures.

New Pokémon

While no new Pokémon were officially named, we did get a look at two new Pokémon, each bearing a striking resemblance to a pre-existing Pokémon, Donphan.

With a big theme of these games seeming to be “past vs. future,” seeing variants of both ancient forms and futuristic forms lies in line with what many fans have speculated: a new type of variant similar to how regional variants worked in the past. Below are some decent, but artificially zoomed-in, shots of these two Pokémon from the trailer.

What do you think of the trailer? Was it just a glorified music video, or were these tiny bits of new information satisfying? Do you hope to see more “Ancient/Futuristic” forms? Let us know in a comment, or hop over to the Boss Rush Discord and join the conversation.
