Timothée Chalamet is showing viewers his whimsical side in the first official Wonka trailer alongside Hugh Grant’s fun-size Oopma-Loompa.
Warner Bros. revealed new footage of Wonka at CinemaCon in April 2023. During the filming, Chalamet said that he swam in a pool of genuine melting chocolate. The clip shows the actor tap dancing on café tables while leading a chorus of umbrella-wielding dancers and the emergence of a golden ticket. Chalamet will feature in seven musical numbers for the film.
Wonka is a period musical set before the events of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, featuring original songs written by Neil Hannon of The Divine Comedy. The screenplay is written by King and Paddington 2‘s Simon Farnaby, and the film is produced by David Heyman, Luke Kelly, and Alexandra Derbyshire.

Willy Wonka first appeared in Roald Dahl’s 1964 children’s novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, in which Charlie Bucket, a poor boy who wins a golden ticket to visit Wonka’s famed chocolate factory. The book has famously been adapted to screen twice before: Mel Stuart’s 1971 version, featuring Gene Wilder as Wonka, and Tim Burton’s 2005 version, starring Johnny Depp.
Wonka hits theaters just in time for the holidays on December 15, 2023. What do you think of the film’s look and Chalamet as Wonka? Let us know in the comments or over at the Boss Rush Discord.
