Reactions
The new hires at the top for Cold Iron Studios are very exciting. Bringing in people with experience working on Halo 4 and Destiny are fantastic fits for an Aliens-focused game, or should another franchise be in play, something science-fiction related. The fact that Cold Iron Studios is continuing to offer improvements to Aliens: Firteam Elite is a very good sign and suggests the developers care how gamers perceive their first title; it’s unclear whether this is a sign that a sequel is on the way and therefore Cold Iron Studios wants to leave gamers with positive vibes about the original, or that the company is simply committed to a quality product and wants to leave the game in good standing.
My gut tells me Cold Iron Studios is working on a follow-up game to Aliens: Fireteam Elite based on the phrasing in the press release. A “new title is in full development” immediately followed by “building on the success of AFE“; this could simply mean they want to learn from the successes and failures of their first endeavor as a studio, but it seems odd to pair those statements so closely. Why not simply state that a new title is in development and they will learn the lessons from their early experiences as developers? Of course, this could simply be reading too much into their press release, but as a huge Aliens fan, this gives me hope, more than I’ve had for a while now for one of my favorite game franchises.
