Musician and video game cover enthusiast Aaron Grubb is back with another fantastic single. As often the case, he’s taken inspiration from The Legend of Zelda, this time featuring the classic song “House Theme” from Ocarina of Time.
When asked about his inspiration for this Zelda music cover, Grubb explained the challenges of adapting this particular song. He said, “At first, I dismissed ‘House Theme’ because I didn’t think I could transform it to my style, but it was too essential to the Ocarina of Time experience to ignore, so I gave it another go and was surprised to find that it worked very well. It can be repetitive, so I added in my own section to add to the dreamy, mysterious quality of it.”
As alluded to, Grubb has his own particular style when creating video game music covers. He typically brings depth and a transcendent, almost spiritual quality to the music that matches its composer’s original intentions while pulling the track into the present. Some of my personal favorites are “Last Day” from Majora’s Mask and his transformation of the classic “Game Over Theme” from The Legend of Zelda.
The original artwork for the single was created by artist Kay (moonglow.and.starshine on IG), which can be seen below:
