For the 2.1 update, Honkai Star Rail released two new characters. These characters are Acheron and Aventurine. Of these two, Acheron’s banner is currently up and will be available until April 17th. After her, Aventurine will be running alongside Jingliu for the second half of the update.
Acheron is a five star lightning character that follows the path of Nihility. In Honkai Star Rail, the path determines what role the character play in the team. For example, Abundance is a path of healers. In this case, Nihility characters apply debuffs on enemies. It is also one of the paths that the characters can be used as a DPS (Damage Per Second). This is the case with Acheron. As a lightning character, she can apply DOT (Damage Over Time) in the form of shock. She can also shatter the shields of enemies with a weakness to lightning.
Acheron is a mysterious character that was introduced in Penacony, one of the stops of the Astral Express. Her past is shrouded in mystery and even her real name is unknown. It is revealed in the 2.1 Trailblaze Mission “Cat Among Pigeons” that Acheron is an Emanator of Nihility, hence her following the Nihility path. This also explains why she is so powerful, both in lore and in the game.

Acheron works best with other Nihility characters at E0. E stands for Eidolon, you can get up to 6 Eidolons by getting a total of 7 Acherons while pulling for her. Each Eidolon provides another buff for Acheron. At E2, which would be her second Eidolon, Acheron becomes more versatile for different teams as it reduces the amount of Nihility characters needed for her to activate an ability called “The Abyss.” This ability increases her damage output for her normal attack, skill, and ultimate. Acheron’s ultimate is not limited to her energy either, which means that enemies that reduce a character’s energy does not affect her. However, it also means that characters such as Huohuo that have abilities to regenerate energy also doesn’t work with her. Instead, Acheron generates Slashed Dreams and once that hits 9 points, she can release her ultimate. This means that Acheron requires more speed (SPD), allowing her to attack more often. Currently, her best support options are Sparkle (a limited 5 star character) and Bronya (a standard 5 star character) as they can allow her to attack multiple times. She can generate Slashed Dreams through her skill or whenever another character generates debuffs on an enemy, meaning that a debuffer character is also good for her.
As Acheron is best at E2, she isn’t considered F2P (Free To Play) friendly. That being said, Acheron is still a good unit regardless. Her talent allows players to skip battle in the open world, as long as the enemy is not an Elite enemy, and that also works within Simulated Universe. If the player knows how to build her and what teams she works well in, they can still use her to her full potential. With the most recent update, there are also plenty of ways to gather Stellar Jades to pull her. As long as the player is willing to put in the effort to grind to get those Stellar Jades.
Personally, I have already pulled and gotten Acheron. She has been an amazing addition to my team, even with my limited Nihility characters. Currently, she is one of the most powerful characters available in game. It would be a good investment to pull for her. That being said, pull for whoever you want regardless of your reasonings. If there is a character you truly want, go for them and save up your Stellar Jades.
