Boss Rush Banter: Genshin Impact’s 4.5 Update Was Forgettable

Genshin Impact is at the end of its 4.5 update as the 4.6 update recently surfaced in a livestream. Now that the end of the 4.5 update is near, it leaves players wondering what was the purpose of the update.

In most updates, the main event has some sort of quest or link to the world of Teyvat. Sometimes it has major lore drops, other times it is as simple as continuing the story of an NPC. However, this was missing in the 4.5 update.

There have always been filler updates in Genshin Impact, but up until this point, there hadn’t been one that was as obviously filler as the 4.5 update. The only interesting thing that happened was the release of Chiori and her story quest. Outside of that, there was very little included in the 4.5 update. Even the main event, the Alchemical Ascension Event, was lacking a proper quest or story. The event itself had been fun, but it didn’t compare to the events in past updates.

The 4.5 update feels the emptiest out of all the past updates. There was a point where there were only two tabs on the events page: the Character Test Runs and the Feline Fortress Furrdyssey. Normally, when the events page is that bare bones it is because the newest update is about to come out in a couple of days. This lack of events happened before the livestream had even been announced. In past filler updates, there had at least been something to do with multiple options to choose from. More and more events would fill up the events page as the update went on, instead of less. This made the 4.5 update drag on as new content wasn’t provided to the players to keep retention. As a late-game player myself, I’ve already completed most of the permanent content in the game. An update this bare bones made playing the game feel more like a chore than something I was looking forward to.

Ultimately, the 4.5 update of Genshin Impact was disappointing. That said, I am excited for the 4.6 update as it looks to be full of new content. Do you think the 4.5 update of Genshin Impact was lacking? Or did you think there was enough to do? Let us know in the comments below or join the Boss Rush Discord to further the conversation!
