Rugrats: Adventures in Gameland had a playable demo featured at the Limited Run Games booth at PAX West 2024. The game, published by The MIX Games, Wallride and Limited Run Games, is set to release September 10 on Steam and all major consoles.
Overview
The basic premise of this game, based on the classic Nickelodeon television show, is that that Tommy, Chuckie, Phil, and Lil see a commercial for the new Reptar video game and pretend to be in a video game of their own. Players can toggle between 8-bit graphics and modern HD visuals at their preference, can switch between their favorite characters mid-game, and can play either co-op or solo in this neo-retro platformer.
Demo Experience

I thoroughly enjoyed my experience playing the demo at PAX West. Unfortunately, the game developer wasn’t available to take my questions, but I can say I certainly had a good time.
Each of the Rugrats has their own character attributes, either featuring a better jump ability or pulling ability (or a balance between the two). I chose to play as Tommy, the most balanced character.
I progressed through what appears to be one of the early game levels, digging my way through sand boxes and platforming through hilarious artifacts from domestic life. At the end of the demo, I had to defeat a boss by throwing toys in its mouth.
All in all, the game reminded me a lot of the 1990s licensed tie-in games like Aladdin and The Lion King. However, the gameplay and controls felt much smoother than those infamous titles.
If you’re in for a bit of nostalgia or just want a chill platformer, this might be the game for you.
