For the most part everyone must wake up in the morning, whether that be through natural means or the assistance of some type of alarm, bell, or buzzer. We all have jobs, duties, or tasks we perform. Nintendo knows this and has dabbled in a few different ways to aid in sleep or make sleeping more rewarding. Alarmo is the new way they have taken to give people some structure and familiar tunes to spruce up their day. But are there possible indications that Nintendo is ramping up tests on new technologies or services?
When I saw the Alarmo I thought that it looked interesting and straight forward. A device that wakes you up with Nintendo tunes. Watching the trailer with my daughter and seeing some of the features it offered gave me a little bit more depth into what I think maybe some underlying tests that Nintendo may be conducting or fine tuning. Here are my thoughts.
On the technology side we see that Alarmo has a motion sensor that can track the individuals’ movements and heighten the output of sound or sound effects with a higher decibel as you start to move around. A patent that had been previously published by Nintendo showcases a motion sensing add on to the next console. Is what we see on Alarmo this technology and in what ways is Nintendo using this information to create a better gaming experience for the consumer? Will this be a way to play VR games that have been potentially rumored to be part of the next console? Time will reveal all.
The second side of this test deals with a Nintendo based streaming service. The clock has a few songs included with 2 additional songs being added later. The clock has you enter your Nintendo account and if Nintendo unveils a new streaming platform that could include movies, shows, and music. It would be a wise choice to be able to listen to music you have purchased or have unlocked from games you have completed. These rewards would create a great ecosystem in which the more games you complete the more rare songs you can unlock to be used as part of the alarm. Just think of earning coins and buying songs to be used on Alarmo or played through your console through the speakers in your living room. It would be a great complimentary addition to Nintendo’s online offerings.
What do you make of the Alarmo? Do you think this will propel future technologies or services amongst Nintendo products? Will you be picking up an Alarmo? Let us know your thoughts on this topic.
