Honkai Star Rail’s most recent update introduced the next planet and the characters of Amphoreus. In Amphoreus, the players learn about the Three Aeons that created the Titans and how demigods come from them. Demigods take on the Coreflames of the Titans to inherit their powers and abilities, as well as their titles. At the end of the current story, Phainon just went into a trial to achieve the powers of Nikador, the Lance of Fury, and gain the Coreflame of Strife.
In the game, the Trailblazer has a book called “As I’ve Written” that records the stories of Amphoreus. This book is similar to the scrapbook in Penacony as it is available whenever the player opens the menu. Each Titan is featured in the book under the section “Flame-Chaser’s Path” and is established with the Amphoreus character that has the Coreflame for that Titan. Aglaea is featured with Mnestia, Castorice with Thanatos, and Tribbie with Janus. While Castorice does not yet have Thanatos’ Coreflame, it is clear that she will get it in the future. However, in this book, Mydei is featured with Nikador. This is despite the story ending with Phainon starting his trial with Nikador.

What does this mean for the story? Based upon the pattern established, Phainon wouldn’t get Nikador’s Coreflame. Instead, it will be Mydei. That is if the book is foreshadowing what will happen in the story later on. What exactly will happen, I won’t speculate too much. But I imagine that Phainon will fail the trial and Mydei will take on the Coreflame of Strife in his place. As for Phainon, he will still become a demigod. In the book, he is featured over a different Titan. If the book is to be believed, he will gain Kephale’s, the Throne of Worlds, Coreflame of Worldbearing.
This would make more sense, as Phainon has been set up to be the main focus of Amphoreus. Since the story started, Phainon has been there for everything. He was the one that introduced the Trailblazer and Dan Heng to the rest of the group. All the other Chrysos Heirs currently in game have mentioned that he is important, Mydei even calling him “the Deliverer”. Phainon is important and him gaining the power of a Titan that holds the Coreflame of Worldbearing fits him much better than the Coreflame of Strife.

It wouldn’t be entirely out of character for Hoyoverse to leave hints of how the story would progress. But something this obvious does seem a bit strange. In one of their other games, Genshin Impact, Hoyoverse waited until a bit after the update to release secondary drip-marketings for some of the Fontaine cast. These secondary drip-marketings revealed that some of the characters were actually part of the Fatui. So it also wouldn’t be strange for them to hide something this obvious, such as simply not releasing the Mydei and Phainon parts in the book, until after that part of the story. But this isn’t the case this time. Instead, those parts were released already.
What do you think? Was this on purpose? Did Hoyoverse really spoil the Amphoreus quest? Or are players reading too much into it? Let us know in the comments below or join the Boss Rush Discord to further the conversation.
