Nintendo has never been shy about porting games from triple-A studios. From Resident Evil 4 on the GameCube to Witcher 3 on the Switch, Nintendo has tried to ensure there’s a little piece in their library of games for everyone. With the successor of the Nintendo Switch, “Nintendo Switch 2,” it’s worth considering what upcoming games could be ported.
The reason ports exist in the first place is due to the console itself, and if it has capabilities to run the ported titles. With the GameCube for example, porting Resident Evil 4 was fairly simple due to the graphics and processing power being comparable to the PlayStation 2.
Even if the console takes liberties with its internal hardware, games like The Witcher 3 can be ported on the Nintendo Switch by scaling back the textures and making sure the console doesn’t get overwhelmed.
With the Nintendo Switch 2 implied to have a better performance and processing power, It becomes intriguing to think what games can be brought over onto the new console.
A Switch 2 port I can already imagine being somewhat likely is the new award -winning JRPG, Metaphor: ReFantazio. The studio behind the game, Atlus, previously have been able to port their acclaimed Persona series to the original Switch, and given the praise that their new IP has been receiving, a Switch 2 port doesn’t seem unlikely.
Another thing that we could take into consideration are the ported switch games that run exclusively through cloud streaming. Resident Evil 2, Kingdom Hearts 3, and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey are games that the original Switch could only stream to your console. With the new Switch on the way, it’s only fair to hope that these games could run locally.
