Whether it’s a new player or a comeback of a veteran developer, we are surprised each year with quality video games at the hands of passionate game designers. So, which studios are the ones to watch for in the near future?
Capcom has made an impressive comeback in the past few years with Resident Evil 7 and the remakes of 2, 3, and 4, Street Fighter 6, Capcom Fighting Collection, and Monster Hunter Rise. This year is no exception with the launch of Monster Hunter Wilds at the end of February. With an already passionate fan base, Wilds promises to appeal to returning and new players alike.

It’s not just Monster Hunter Wilds, though. Capcom surprised us with the return of the Onimusha franchise with Onimusha: Way of the Sword, featuring a brand-new protagonist, set to release some time in 2026. In the meantime, Capcom will whet our appetite with a remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny, set to release May 23rd.

And if THAT wasn’t enough, Capcom teased a sequel to Okami, a “Zelda-like”, game with gorgeous paintbrush like art style.
SEGA is another studio that is on fire, not only with Sonic (e.g. the Sonic 3 movie and Sonic Racing CrossWorlds), but with the return of some other beloved franchises. Yes, Shinobi is returning in this stylish 2D action platformer that will release August 29th, titled Shinobi: Heart of Vengeance.
On the horizon, we see Housemarque returning with their next project, Saros. A stunning cinematic trailer was closed the February Sony State of Play, introducing this new single player IP built on Returnal’s concept and features a hostile shape shifting planet plagued by ominous solar eclipses. It is projected to release in 2026. Establishing a strong footing with Returnal back in 2021, it is a safe bet, Housemarque is returning in a massive way.
I also want to shout out the passionate folks over at the Bloober Team. They knocked the horror genre out of the park with The Medium, but they also earned major kudos with the remake of Silent Hill 2. Now that both projects are under their belt, they’ve annouced their next spooky project, Cronos: The New Dawn. Not much is known about the new IP, but the Bloober Team has established a positive track record that puts them on the map.
Lastly, I’d like to give Konami an honorable mention, as they are taking steps to revive some key franchises and re-focus their attention on games. Konami seeks to achieve “sustainable growth in the next 50 years” by adopting a “Creator’s First” slogan, relocating to Osaka, and opening an R&D center. Yes, they gave Silent Hill 2 to Bloober Team to develop, but Konami has been also focusing on Castlevania, Metal Gear Solid, and even putting out a new IP called Darwin’s Paradox later this year. Of course, the jury is still out on how Konami will execute these titles if they want a gaming renaissance like Capcom is experiencing.
Which game studio(s) do you predict to achieve greatness in 2025 and in the next few years? Please share your thoughts with us on our Boss Rush Facebook Group or our Boss Rush Discord.
