Genshin Impact just released the details of their 5.6 update in their livestream this morning. It was jam-packed with characters and lore, bringing travelers all the way back to Mondstadt, the game’s first region.

Characters and Banners
HoYoverse also revealed the two new characters coming to the banner this coming update. The first-half of the update will star Escoffier as the new five-star alongside Navia with Ifa starring as a four-star character. The second-half of the banner will have Kinich and Raiden Shogun for the five-stars. It will also star the Chronicle Wish Banner starring Inazuma characters and weapons. The characters on the Chronicle Wish Banner include Ayaka, Ayato, Yoimiya, Chiori, Yae Miko, Itto, Kokomi, and Kazuha with their respective signature weapons.
Ifa is a four-star Anemo character. He is known as a Saurian vet from the Flower-Feather clan. His Elemental Burst Compound Sedation Field fires a therapeutic sedative to enemies. This attack pulls in characters to where the attack lands. It is briefly mentioned to restrain enemies so it’s possible it keeps characters stuck there without the added animation of Anemo or it restrains in the way of pulling the enemies into one space. Similar to other Anemo attacks, he can trigger Swirl as long as the enemies are affected by corresponding elements. His Burst will deal AoE (Area of Effect) damage if this condition is met.
Ifa’s Elemental Skill Airborne Disease Prevention involves Ifa’s companion Cacucu. Cacucu will lift Ifa into the air, essentially hovering and gliding in the air for Ifa to shoot down at enemies. In this phase, Ifa can continuously fire shots dealing Anemo damage. These shots will also restore HP (Health Points) for all party members. Furthermore, his Ascension Talent Field Medics Vision means that while in the Nightsoul’s Blessing stage, it will Increase his Swirl and Electro-Charged Damage based on the total number of Nightsoul Points across the party. In the livestream, Ifa is often shown alongside Ororon, presumably having great chemistry in a team with him.
Ifa also has a great Passive Talent called Tactical Warm Compress Bandaging. With this talent, while in Natlan, when a character’s HP drops below a certain HP percentage, Ifa will consume phlogiston to restore HP without prompting. It’s a great way to increase HP for the team without needing combat.
The next new character is Escoffier, La Chanson Cerise. Escoffier is a five-star Cryo character who wields a pole arm. She is the former Head Chef of Hotel Debord and appears to be a great support character.
Escoffier’s Ascension Talent Inspiration-Immersed Seasoning will grant more RES (resistance) reduction to freeze, increasing with the greater number of Hydro and Cryo characters in the team. In addition, the enemy themselves does not need to be actually frozen for this to apply meaning even bosses receive the RES reduction as well.
Low-Temperature Cooking is her Elemental Skill which summons a cooking mech to the field. This mech will follow the active player (becoming an off-field support) that will fire Cryo projectiles at enemies. Her Ascension Talent means that her mech will also be granted the RES reduction making it a more powerful summon.
Escoffier is not only a great support and attack unit, but also a healer. Her Elemental Burst Scoring Cuts restores HP to the entire party. In the livestream, it appears to be a gradual increase, something in increments similar to Bennet’s.
She also has a unique Passive Talent called Constant Off-the-Cuff Cookery. When the Elemental Skill is held instead of tapped, it will summon a different cooking mech. This mech can absorb Elemental Energy and convert it into a dish! The mech can create several different dishes this way. From the dish shown in the livestream, it can even create a five-star dish which means it has the best effects and bonuses.
New Bosses
With new characters comes new bosses. The first new boss is Secret Source Automation: Overseer Device. This boss is revealed to be part of ancient dragon technology. The game already has a similar boss to this one, but the livestream reveals this to be deliberate. There is a hint that they look like pieces of a larger mech. It’s a great lore bit for players to investigate to understand more about the ancient dragon society.
The other new boss is The Game Before the Gate. The boss is a set of King and Queen and stars a chessboard. The first-half of the battle will star Alice in a Dodoco Communication, shooting out chess pieces to test the traveler. The second-half will star the King and Queen. It’s hinted that using Freeze will greatly help stop high-damage attacks. From the livestream, it appears that the boss uses Hydro, Pyro, and Electro, so it will be a multi-elemental boss.
New Quests
New characters and new bosses means new quests to introduce them. Escoffier will have her own story quest featuring a cooking competition. From the sneak peeks, it appears similar to Xiangling’s story quest.
The game will also have the limited event, Whirling Waltz. Navia and Spina de Rosula are funding and managing a festival that features a brand new amusement park. Travelers will be a manager over this park to help with its success. But, behind the festivities, is a smuggling case. Kinich has come to Natlan in his quest to investigate and even meets up with Wriothesley who appears to also be looking for clues. Even Ororon and Ifa appear, delivering produce to the event to bring some Natlan treats. The limited event is similar to others in that it will grant a brand new four-star weapon and other rewards including primogems.
The major new story quest is the Archon Quest. It is the Interlude Chapter: Act IV called Paralogism. The Wind Blume Festival is a long-held tradition in Mondstadt, but this year is different. It has turned violent as monsters are invading the city! Not only that, but a secret trial is underway as Albedo is accused of murder and unlawful disposal of human remains. In this quest, travelers will also see the teased Dahlia, the Deacon of the Church who works as the Herald of Barbatos. Venti himself will appear in the quest, using the Dodoco Communication to contact Alice. Though, travelers are told that the first call connects to Grandmaster Varka before connecting to Alice. All of these events are linked together, but travelers will have to play the quest themselves to figure out how.
Additional Reveals
The livestream revealed a new collaboration with Charlotte Tilbury. They will be launching two limited edition sets starring Mona called the Starry Miracle and Starfell Treasure. These will be available from April 30.
Furthermore, travelers are teased that April 30 will also bring new content to the Song of the Welkin Moon. This online event has given great expectations to Nodkrai, a new region coming heralding the tale of the Three Moon Sisters. The new clues coming at the end of the month are sure to bring more excitement to this region.
