“For Players and Screamers”
Hideo Kojima recently celebrated ten years of Kojima Productions, and the celebration comes with teasers of upcoming projects. While we were already aware that he and his team are working on both a horror and espionage game, OD and Physint, respectively, the teaser trailer for OD – Knock has everyone feeling those P.T. vibes. While there is no proof nor confirmation that P.T. and OD are related, the trailer strongly suggests this new horror title will bring what fans wanted from a fully fleshed out P.T.
For those that don’t know, or just would like to reminisce, P.T.–also knowns as Playable Trailer, was released in 2014, intending to be for Silent Hills before the disastrous break up between Konami and Kojima. P.T. featured a recurring loop in first-person down a hallway as you are haunted by Lisa, a malevolent entity. Each loop contained a change, large or small, leaving many players eager for a full version of the game. P.T was stuck on the PlayStation 4 and later removed from the PlayStation Store.
Now that Hideo Kojima successfully launched Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, he’s free to focus on his several projects including OD, which is in partnership with the brilliant Jordan Peele, film director of Get Out, Us, and Nope. The teaser trailer begins in the first-person perspective and primarily takes place in a single room. After a mysterious card slid through the crack in a door that reads, ” Light the fires to celebrate their [redacted]”, the protagonist is lighting candles, including ones that look like babies. Note that Kojima ties many of his projects with babies, including in P.T. There is a sudden flip, showing the protagonist, terrified, as the entity that has been tirelessly knocking at the door has entered…and grabbed her. The trailer feeds us blips of redacted story involving a “sinister ritual”, and the building, which was likely designed or discovered by a 3D scan of “something”.

While there was no looping hallway or Lisa floating around, the first-person view, infant cries, malevolent energy, and overall sense of an unknown dread stalking the protagonist is likely to deliver that P.T. fans have always wanted from Kojima if he made a full-fledged horror game. And it’s not just me. Several news outlets have already compared this OD trailer to P.T., further cementing my prediction that OD is the answer to P.T.
Check out the trailer below:
Knowing Kojima, he hadn’t launched the project of OD for the sake of following up on a loose end. Given his history of intense, bizarre, and creative games and projects, it makes sense that he had a true inspiration and profound desire to bring OD to fruition. Will there be any true connection to P.T.? We will only know in time. Even if Kojima came right out and stated the two have zero in common, I feel that OD is the answer for P.T. fans. If you have never played P.T., I highly recommend watching a Let’s Play on it. I plan on rewatching one to refresh and compare what I’ve seen in OD. Besides, Kojima has said there are many hints in the OD trailer…
