As Yacht Club Games and players around the world enjoy and celebrate Mina the Hollower, game grifters are discussing the game’s difficulty and attempting to generate engagement for clicks and money. It’s the same talking points, comparisons, and tired reasons for a response. Look, Mina the Hollower is challenging. It’s not too difficult if you put time and effort into the game. If it’s still challenging, thank Yatch Club for adding modders.
That’s right, just like Another Crab’s Treasure, Mina the Hollower offers players the ability to adjust the level of difficulty to their liking. You want the game to be easier? You can go into the options when you are playing the game and add infinite health. You can do more damage to the bosses and enemies. You can walk faster. There are many options for you to choose from.
You can also make the game harder with different modifiers that are offered. You can take triple the damage. You can have fewer underlabs. You can even mess with the levels of your attack, defense, and side arm when you lose a spark you carry. Once again, options. Even Yacht Club itself mentioned this was in the game!
Hollow Knight and Hollow Knight: Silksong never offered these, and the PC community had to add modifiers to their version of the game because it was too difficult for players. They’re still great games, but people bounced off these games because the reward for progressing felt pointless if the game is just delivering no visual way of showing how you are getting stronger. Mina the Hollower shows your health bar expanding, and when you “Bone Up” in the game, you can choose to better yourself or reserve that currency.
Look, when it comes to NES games, we know they’re hard. We know the story. We know the drill. We know certain sandwiches are great with dill pickles. Mina the Hollower was designed to be that way and capitalize on the nostalgia of the era. It’s nothing new, and frankly, it already is common when developers bring these 8-bit sprite-based games.
I am having a great time with the game and have won and lost a lot of battles, and it reminds me of when I was getting my tail defeated back in the ’80s and part of the ’90s on my NES. Yacht Club just gave the option for people to enjoy the game in whatever way they want to play, and nothing is wrong with it. If you want to make the game easier, do it. You made the purchase, and you should enjoy it the way you want to.
