The MIX Fall Game Showcase premiered live in Seattle on September 4th. One standout title that came as a recommendation from several colleagues is Bleu Bayou.

- Trailer:
My experience playing the Bleu Bayou demo was nothing short of positive. While I personally struggle with fast-paced and hardcore roguelikes, the game eased me into the chaos, teaching me that it was okay to die. Relieved from the burden of frustration, an adorable opossum named Clarence guided my humble little crawfish into the art of paying back debt.
Yes, the premise of the game is that you must earn money by obliterating various bosses (and play mini games) to pay back nasty loan sharks. Each day you have the opportunity to select one big baddie to take down and also play a WarioWare-like mini game. At the start, you are equipped with a harpoon and a blade, both of which can be hurled at the enemy. If you catch the weapon upon return, you are rewarded with the ability to utilize them immediately. If you miss them, there is a cooldown until you can utilize them again. It doesn’t stop there, Bleu Bayou offers over 50 weapons and 150 upgrades to add to your arsenal.
The other notable thing was that 8-bit retro feel. Then demo was available to play on a modern screen as well as a CRT TV and a retro handheld. The devs nailed the look and color-scheme to make us elderly Millennials feel right at home.

I want to thank the devs of Bokoyoss for chatting with me while I played Bleu Bayou. The mix of retro, mini-games, and top-down boss rush gameplay, was a refreshing experience. If this game interests you, be sure to wish list Bleu Bayou on Steam, and stay tuned for a future Boss Rush Spotlight!
