The Final Fantasy series is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year, and as part of the festivities Square Enix is releasing a highly detailed statue of Final Fantasy VI‘s Terra riding in Magitek armor, just as was seen in the opening moments of the classic JRPG.
Officially named “SQEX Masterline FFVI,” the figure is made at 1/6 scale and stands at 30.7 inches (78cm). The statue is based upon Yoshitaka Amano’s iconic artwork for Final Fantasy VI. Amano is even supervising the project from the ground up.
The statue comes with swappable parts for both Terra and the Magitek armor, allowing fans to pose them as they see fit. Further features and contents are listed below.
- 30.7 inches (78cm)
- Made of polystone, PVC, ABS, die-cast
- Based on the legendary Final Fantasy VI video game
- Multiple swappable pieces
- Limited to 600 pieces worldwide
- Final Fantasy VI Terra statue
- Alternate upper body part
- Alternate lower body part
- 3 Unique Moogles
- Title plate
If you’re interested in snagging one, you better have a lot of cash on hand. Priced at a staggering 1,485,000 yen, it comes out to around $12,000 USD, or roughly £9,000.
As if the price wasn’t a barrier enough, only 600 figures will be produced, with 150 allocated for only Japan.
While obviously a gorgeous and well-made piece of art, the price even has Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi taken aback. On Twitter, he shared the announcement by stating “This isn’t it. Even from the diorama production cost of FANTASIAN, isn’t this a little much? Is everything ok, Square Enix?”
Sakaguchi’s latest game, a mobile JRPG titled FANTASIAN, used real world dioramas to construct the game’s world, so one would think he would have a good idea on the cost of producing miniatures.
What do you think? Is a piece this big worth the hefty price tag? Will you be attempted to get one of these for yourself? Let us know in the comments below and on our official Discord server!
