Fans of beat ’em ups and of the Heroes in a Half Shell have spoken—Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge is a smashing success. The retro-style game from Dotemu and Tribute Games released June 16; now Dotemu has announced the game sold over a million copies in its first week of release.
The sales numbers are a huge boon to fans of the genre and more specifically of TMNT as it proves these types of games are marketable and marks a revival of the beloved franchise. The numbers almost assure that DLC will follow and perhaps future sequels.

Speaking about the chance to work on TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge, Cyrille Imbert, CEO of Dotemu explains, “[It’s] the game I dreamed of working on ever since I began watching the original cartoon and funneling coins into the TMNT arcade cabinets as a kid.” Imbert also thanked the developers at Tribute Games for “expertly capturing the classic thrill of the Turtles’ battles with the Foot Clan in a new experience that feels completely fresh and exciting to play.”
The team at Tribute Games also took a moment to celebrate the success of TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge. Co-Founder Jean-Francois Major said, “[We] set out to make the ultimate celebration of a chapter in TMNT history that means the world to us, and it’s been wonderful to watch the accessible fun of beat-em-ups resonate with longtime fans and genre newcomers alike. We’re thankful for all of the support and encouragement the passionate TMNT community has shown.”
