Echoes in Wuthering Waves are resources in game that are equipped to characters in order to boost their stats. Each Echo has its own special ability that can aid in combat or be used to explore the map. These Echoes can be tuned to gain additional sub-stats and upgraded to enhance the main stat. The main stats vary amongst the cost of Echoes, as well as the types. These main stats are important for characters, as a Healing Bonus might be helpful for a healer but not for a main DPS. Additionally, Echoes can be part of different sets, though which sets depend on the Echo themselves. Each set has it’s own stat increasing bonuses based upon how many Echoes of that set is equipped to that character. Sets have a bonus for two of an Echo with that set equipped and then a greater boost when five different Echoes of that set are equipped. These sets are called Sonata Effects in game.
While Echoes can be farmed out in the Open World, there are also places where players can farm specific Sonata Effects for Echoes. Each Echo has various Sonata Effects that they can be part of, including ones that can increase the damage done by the Attribute of a character. Attributes can include Electro, Spectro, Glacio, Aero, Fusion, and Havoc. The Rover currently can switch between Spectro and Havoc, but all other characters are connected to one specific Attribute.

At the moment, it is only when a player gains the Echo through a trial or completing their dailies do they see the Sonata Effect and main stat of an Echo. This allows for the players to quickly decide if they’d like to lock the Echo to use in the future. However, this is not true with Open World Echo collection. Anytime that an Echo is collected in the Open World, players cannot check to see what the main stat or Sonata Effect is without finding the new Echo within their backpack. This makes it difficult for players to farm for Echoes, as they wouldn’t know the Echoes main stat until they track it down and click on it. It would be much easier to check this in the Open World.
There’s also the matter of the Echo Cost. At the highest Data Bank level, players can only equip a character with Echoes that total to a cost of twelve. The highest level Echoes, which have a chance to get Crit main stats or Healing Bonus, all have a cost of four. These are from Calamity or Overload enemies, such as Jué and Impermanence Heron. Any Echo that can have Attribute Damage Bonus, such as Glacio Damage Bonus, would be a cost of three. These are from Elite Class enemies, such as the Flautists. Lastly are Common Class enemies, such as Chirpuff’s, that cost one to equip and only roll into basic stats like HP and ATK.

The issue lays mainly with the Stats and limitations to Echoes in game. With the different types of Sonata Effects, and the need for all five Echoes to be from the same one to trigger the full affects, the inclusion of Attribute Damage Bonuses across all Sonata Effects creates some issues. An Electro Damage main stat could roll into a Sonata Effect that is best for Fusion characters. To get an Attribute Damage Stat is already statistically low, but to gain the one needed for the character within their best Sonata Effect is even lower. That is not even including the issue of the Echo tuning to good sub-stats as well.
While players can reuse the Echoes they don’t want, by inputting five Echoes into the Data Merge Feature, there is no way to choose a main stat or Sonata Effect that they would like for the merged Echoes. While the Data Merge does increase the chance of getting a good Echo, it is completely random in what stats and Sonata Effect the Echo would gain in this way. It is also limited to the type of Echoes that the player has already absorbed. If a player hasn’t already absorbed Carapace, for instance, then the Data Merge cannot create a Carapace for the player. However, if the player has already absorbed a Dreamless, then it can give the player a Dreamless.
Some things that Kuro Games could implement to make Echo collection easier would be as follows: allow a player to see the main stat and Sonata Effect of an Echo in Open World Collection, make the chance to gain a certain Attribute main stat higher for a Sonata Effect (an example would be increasing the likelihood of gaining a Spectro Damage Bonus when farming the Celestial Light Sonata Effect), and allow players to input for a specific main stat, Sonata Effect, or both when using the Data Merge. These are all ways that Echo Collection would be more player friendly.
