It can be easy to overlook the recent Indie World Showcase.
Nintendo hosted a joint Indie World and Partner Showcase on Aug. 27, highlighting numerous games in development. These announcements came from both indie and non-indie developers.
So far, many of the games from the Partner Showcase have gotten the limelight but the Indie World side of the Direct had its fair share of intriguing announcements.
The following five games are not ranked in any order, but they are some that stood out to use as we watched the Indie World Showcase.
Pizza Tower — Now Available
Fans of Sonic the Hedgehog will likely feel right at home with this game. In fact, the response to this game has been overwhelmingly positive on Steam so you might not have to be a Sonic fan to really enjoy it. What makes this game stand out even more is the whacky premise of it as it has a Wario vibe to it as well.
Europa — Oct. 11
Europa seems to be trying to appeal several different demographics. It resembles The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in a lot of ways, but adds its unique art style. Honestly, the art of this game looks amazing and that could make a difference if you have to take your sweet time to solve puzzles in this world.
Neva — Oct. 15
Neva isn’t a new game, but it did get a definitive release date. That’s good because everything about this game is intriguing. Gris has a specific audience which largely praised it. Still, there were a few gripes so Neva has a chance to improve on that as Nomada Studios’ sophomore outing. Furthermore, Neva looks like it’ll have an emotional punch to it.
On Your Tail — Nov. 21
The trailer for On Your Tail didn’t reveal much, but it provided just enough to foster intrigue. This narrative-driven life-sim is set in Italy, not a common spot for video games. The promise of a mystery is what makes On Your Tail so interesting and the character designs further add to that intrigue. Aside from the mystery, this also looks like a great game to help you unwind.
Moth Kubit — Spring 2025
I’m always here for the psychedelic and weird games so it was a treat to see Moth Kubit. This gamed seemed to resemble Anodyne in terms of its atmosphere. It also had an Earthbound feel to it so all of this should be interesting to see work out as release day gets closer. When games adopt this kind of tone, it will almost always grab my attention.
